Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Government Security Clearance - Polygraph

I work for a large defense contractor and am in the process of going through a government security clearance. After many personal interviews and paperwork, they have requested that I take a polygraph. Can you tell me the government consequences of refusing to take the polygraph test, if any. I'm assuming I would not receive the clearance, but what might be the other consequences?

Re: Government Security Clearance - Polygraph

Not receiving the clearance is a likely outcome. Obviously, if you don't get the clearance, this might be a termination offense from your employer. If not leading to a termination, it is likely it would negatively affect your career path at your current employer, and perhaps any future employer. Further, in the future, you may not be able to get a clearance, even if you change your mind and agree to the polygraph.

I assume you think you have some reason for not wanting to take a polygraph test. You should retain and consult with an attorney before making such a decision, one way or the other.
