Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Harassment

I'm a civilian working for the Army as a nurse. For several years now I've been verbally harassed at work by military personnel. I've tried talking to the higher ups about what's going on but the Army takes care of it's own. Nothing is ever done or dealt with. Recently I was physically and verbally harassed for the last time! I walked in on a conversation a Captain was having with another coworker. The Captain was speaking about how much she hates me, rather not work with me, and questioned who do I think I am. Once she realized I was in the room she got out her chair and came towards me. She started reaching out for me. I asked her not to touch me! She grabbed my arms and tried to put her arm around my neck. I pulled myself away from her a tried to walk away. She followed and kept trying to grab me. Her boss came out and took her into the office. When the Captain came out she kept trying to talk to me. I kept saying to her just to stay away from me. I was sent to another ward for the rest of my shift that day. What can I do? My job wants to act like this didn't happen. I'm concern for my safety!!!

Re: Harassment

Why haven't you filed formal charges of simple assault against this captain--with the Army as well as with the metro police in the District(if that's where this incident occurred)?

Re: Harassment

You should act fast to preserve your safety and your rights. File a grievance with HR asap and file a incident report with the Army and/or dc police. If your employer continually looks the other way, you may have a claim against them. You should consult an attorney as soon as possible as there are filing deadlines that affect your ability to assert a claim against your employer.
