Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

''Maybe I should move on'' = You're Fired

My company just revised the employee handbook and ''will continue to keep you abreast of all laws and policies that will benefit you as an employee.''

It now says: A statement made by an employee Maybe I should move on. will automatically be

implemented.

In the course of discussion about job and goals this, or some variation, could come up. Is it legal to be able to basically fire someone for making this type of statement?

Sure, perfectly legal to fire someone

for such a statement in an employment

at will jurisdiction such as the Commonwealth, in a situation where the employee is working without the protection of a contract.

Such a person could also be "pink slipped", so to speak, for showing up at work on a Friday wearing a chartreuse shirt.
