Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Recording a meeting

I was a participant in a work meeting. I am the HR Manager for my employer and always take notes at my meeting. For this particular I used my smart pen which records. The meeting was held at our DC office with 6 other managers present. Other managers were writing down notes and I was recording to ensure that there could be no retraction of agreements from the meeting. I stepped out of the meeting briefly to answer a phone call and the pen was left in the meeting but only recorded for another 30 seconds. Was having the pen at this meeting a violation of privacy. I did not advise any of my coworkers that I was recording but the pen was clearly out in the open. The corporate office is in Maryland but our field office where the meeting as held is in DC.

Re: Recording a meeting

The District of Columbia, like Virginia, is apparently a one party consent jurisdiction where only one of the parties to a recording needs to consent, which can be the person doing the recording(you in this case).
