Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Resignation not Termination

I recently resigned from a high level position in local govt after less than a year. Id come from the private sector, thus was accustomed to a professional work environment. To my dismay, the leadership there were extremely unprofessional. Rather than treating their subordinates as such, they constructed an environment of fear, threats and retaliation, assuming the roles of tyrannical parents who decreed that all would do as they said, when they said, and how they said should be done or else! To make matters worse, 75% of time they were doing things incorrectly, ignoring procedures and guidelines, thus, wasting tax payer monies. I decided to extricate myself from this situation with my resignation. Prior to my tenure, another individual resigned, giving them two weeks notice. They promptly handed him a box and told him to leave w/i the hour. He also received a certified letter in the mail stating that his resignation was not accepted and that he was terminated. I received a similar letter. As this will affect me in future when pursuing and securing other job opportunities, naturally, I want the record straight. Are there any laws I can use to have them set the record straight as I resigned & was not terminated?

Re: Resignation not Termination

You should send a reponse letter to this governmental entity detailing the facts of your resignation as opposed to your alleged termination with a request that it be included in your personnel file.

Then retain a copy for your own records.
