Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Unemployment Claims for hostile & threatening Workplaces

I was employed in DC with a private

educational system and after 25 years of service, I had to take FMLA

Leave due to severe depression and anxiety. Two of my doctor's

recommended that I not return to

the same job. The attorney representing the company I worked for stated that either I return or I leave/resign from my

position. Based on medical

recommendations, I resigned/retired due to a hostile

and threatening workplace.

Since I was forced to take involuntary retirement, and it wasn't my firm decision to leave the

workforce, can I apply for unemployment benefits?

Yes, under these circumstances you might well qualify for such unemployment benefits in the District of Columbia (in my opinion).
