Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia
Wrongful Termination
I want to know if I have a good case. On Aug.16 I was suspended w/pay pending an investigation into an incident. Five days into the investigation I was told that an outside agency would be handling it and that My employer had stopped it's internal investigation. I was assured by the Program Operator(PO) that someone from this agency would contact me. Seven more days went by and no one from the investigating agency contacted me. During this time I repeatedly called the PO and told him that no one had contacted me. Each time he told me that he didn't know what was going on but that someone would call me. At the end of this seven day period I was called in for a meeting at which time I was terminated for ''concerns about proffesionalism and role-modeling'' I was never given any findings in regards to the investigation, I was never questioned. When I questioned the PO, I was told to call Human Resources for details. HR told me that they had no details.

Re: Wrongful Termination
Your description of what happened is really incomplete. For example from reading it, I am not
clear whether your former employer is a public sector employer or private sector employer. Are
you covered by a Union contract? Do you have any documents concerning the matter. i.e., warning letter, charging letter etc? Is there an employee handbook your former employer was
implementing in your case. There is much more information that is needed before one can even
begin to evaluate to your situation to determine what rights, if any, you may have.
I will say it appears you are being given the run around. That is very suspicious. I would pursue it further if I were you, but you need to be able to answer the above questions and probably others
before getting meaningful legal advice.
