Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in District of Columbia

eviction

a friend of mine allowed me to stay in a unit that belonged to his girlfriend==he let me in the apartment and said I could stay there until I found a place to live. I have made this my home and now the landlord (girlfriend) wants me out. She says I am trespassing eventhough I have been there at least a year now. Can she just come in and take over?

Re: eviction

Yep, if your friend's girlfriend is the owner/landlord of the unit where you've been staying without her permission, legally speaking, you're little more than a trespasser and, yes, "she can just come in and take over"---anytime she feels like it and have you removed by law enforcement authorities, if necessary.
