Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in District of Columbia

this is for my father he is trying to get his money back form his landlord its been two months and the landlord kept saying that he is gonna give it to him. he have and his papper work saying that he dont owe any money is it any thing he can do besides go to court

I would suggest contacting the Office of the Tenant Advocate in Washington DC to determine whether you have other options:

If this is a security deposit, you should be aware that in Washington DC, the refusal to pay security deposits back to tenants is subject to interest. So it would be in the landlord's best interest to pay especially if there is already paperwork stating that the money is owed.
