Legal Question in Legal Ethics in District of Columbia
company credit cards
I work for a non-profit company in
Washington DC. The work requires a
bit of traveling (which is charged to
our personal credit cards). Recently
the company issued amex cards to
the staff. They are not ''corporate
cards'' because all the charges are
not billed directly to the company,
but to our vendors. The company
does not require staff to use the
cards. Staff are to submit expenses
as usual, receive checks and pay the
balance. Each of these cards are
issued to the individual. At no point
were the staff informed a credit card
was being applied for in their name.
when asked if this would effect our
personal credit (good or bad), staff
was told that yes, if payments are
missed it's a mark on our credit
history. Is there anything staff
should be concerned about? i.e.
company using personal information
to secure a credit card in their name
w/o their consent. Is this legal?

Re: company credit cards
It would seem that any employee who is concerned about this arrangement should merely request that the Amex
card issued in his or her name be cancelled "since the company does not require staff to use the cards".
