Legal Question in Personal Injury in District of Columbia
Neighbors
I own a cow pasture and my neighbor's homes back up to it. I have asked them to stop feeding my cows, but they have not. My favorite cow Blossom died as a result of ingesting the poisonous oleander. I would like to sue my neighbors for this. What should I do?

Re: Neighbors
Didn't know there were any cow pastures these days in the District of Columbia. You could certainly sue the neighbor in small claims court for the jurisdictional amount (I think it's $5000)or the fair market value of the cow if the latter is less than that. However, I think your problem would be in the matter of proof, i.e, demonstrating to the court by a preponderance of credible evidence that the proximate cause of your cow's demise was the feeding of the oleander to the cow by the heedless neighbor.
