Legal Question in Real Estate Law in District of Columbia

Home Purchase -Builder Reneges

I put a deposit down on to buy a condo in Washington DC with delivery scheduled in Spring 2008. Seven months after paying my deposit, I contacted the builder for an update and was told that they were not going to deliver the project. Instead, the building was going to be converted to rentals. It is a new building and they are still building it. But they are not going to honor my contract for purchase. What is my recourse?

Re: Home Purchase -Builder Reneges

If you want the unit, you'd file a civil suit for specific performance. Having a contract to buy property gives you what's called an equitable interest in the property. You'd sue to protect that interest.
