Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in District of Columbia
Ownership of photographs
I was dating someone for 13 months and during that time, he took naked pictures of me with my camera, my film and I paid to get them developed. I didn't know we were going to break up, and now that we are seperated, he wants to keep these photographs, but I want them back, since they are of me in the nude. Do I have any legal right to these photographs? I don't know what he will do with them while they are with him. I feel violated, and he says he will not give them up. What can I do?

Re: Ownership of photographs
Assuming that your cause of action is to be filed in D.C., you could go to the clerk's office(civil division) of the D.C. Superior Court and explain that you wish to file an action for the return of personal property(including photo negatives)and find out whether there is, perhaps, a packet of forms/instructions explaining how to do this without the aid of an attorney. It's also possible that your claim might be handled by the samll claims court branch of this civil division.
