Legal Question in Traffic Law in District of Columbia

I was charged with a p170 Traffic violation, failure to display current tags on my car. The fact is, however, that I have current tags, I just forgot to put them on my car. The fine is $100, and I am looking to ideally get it fully repealed or at the very least reduced somewhat. First of all, do I have a case, and second of all, how should I go about doing this? Thank you!

Yes, and on the morining of your hearing, go talk with the

representative of the Commonwealth (either police officer who wrote the ticket or assisrant commonwealth's attorrney) charged with prosecuting your case, and explain the circumstances surrounding the issuance of the ticket.

And, then request that the ticket be dismissed.

And, then, if your request is refused, tell it all to the judge.

Mr. Hendrickson was thinking this is a VA ticket. Because it's in DC, there will be no Superior Court judge. These tickets are handled through administrative adjudication at the DMV. You don't necessarily have a chance of dismissal, because you were failing to display. That is an element of the charge. Your hope is to convince the examiner to dismiss it for the fact that you have now straightened everything out. And if not, ask for a fine reduction.

You should definitely not plead guilty automatically, though. I would request the presence of the officer, and maybe they don't show up at the hearing.
