Legal Question in Traffic Law in District of Columbia

Red Light camera traffic law

I was in D.C. one night following my friend because I didn't know how to get back to the highway. We made a right turn when the light was yellow but just as I was making the turn, the light turned red. The red light camera went off but I'm not completely sure that it was for me because I'm pretty sure that right hand turns at red lights are allowed. Therefore, I don't think that I was the one that set off the camera, but I'm not sure. Should I be fine, or should I be expecting a ticket in the mail? And if I do get a ticket, would it be possible for me to contest it?

Re: Red Light camera traffic law

Yes, right hand turns are allowed in DC(unless posted signs indicate otherwise), but only after the turner first makes a complete stop.

Whether the traffic enforcement robot will issue you a ticket under the scenario described, I have no idea. However, if you do receive such a ticket, you are allowed to contest it.
