Can my grandfather (living in Washington DC) leave a clause in his will, stating he will only leave his inheritance to me if I am to live in his house for the entirety of a year?

Re: Clauses

Assuming that the will was drafted properly and your Grandfather had the legal and testamentary capacity to sign a will, then he might have left you a contingent gift which is legal. If you have any questions feel free to call my office.
