Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in District of Columbia
If there are two parties that own a percentage of property ( House ) ; One ownes two thirds and the othef ownes one third; What is the Laws position on the responcibility of the two owners in reference to paying the property taxes ?
1 Answer from Attorneys
The person who owns 2/3rds of the property pays 2/3rds of the property tax. The person who owns 1/3rd of the property pays 1/3rd of the property tax. With that said, the government does not care who owes what percentage of the property -- it wants all the money, period. If one person pays their fair share and the other person doesn't, a lien still goes on the ENTIRE property and the government will not care about who should have done what.
