Legal Question in Workers Comp in District of Columbia

lawyers fee

If it was agreed that I could receive one lump sum as settlement to my case how much of a percentage is my lawyer entitled to. Is there a set percentage, or does it vary depending on the lawyer. My lawyer I think, is asking for 20%. Is this correct

Re: lawyers fee

The lawyer's fee is capped at 20% by the workers' compensation law. Your attorney's fee must be approved by the Office of Workers' Compensation. He will submit a petition outlining the services he provided and the time required in support of the petition. He will ask you to consent to the fee. You should discuss this with him if you feel the amount he's asking for is excessive.
