Legal Question in Criminal Law in Dominican Republic

what is the statute of limitations in criminal cases

A friend, incarcerated in the Dominican Republic, called me asking for $1500. In order for an attorney to have him released from jail, on the premise that he had served a year without being brought to trial. Is there any possibility that this may be true? He is in for drug smuggling, 2K cocaine.

It's always the cocaine people who call you up and tell you how poor they are. I have no idea what the law is in the Dominican Republic, whether $1500 will get to your friend, or whether it will buy him legal representation, or soap.

Whether or not you buy the story ultimately depends on how good of a friend he is.

You should talk to someone who knows the law in the Dominican Republic. Jurisdictions often do allow the prosecutor only a certain amount of time ofter arrest in which to file the case for certain crimes. It depends entirely on the laws of the country/state. Of course, that says nothing about the specific situation of your friend.
