Always advisable to hire an attorney or at least meet for a consultation. There are many defenses that can be explored. A theft conviction carries many consequences to future employment and even education and can lead to suspension of your driver's license.

I agree with my colleagues, a misdemeanor theft conviction, despite being only a misdemeanor can be especially damaging to one's record because it potentially involves dishonesty. My firm has handled many of these cases and offers free case consultations.
