Legal Question in Disability Law in Florida

Credit Discrimination Against the Disabled?

Before I became disabled, I had an excellent credit rating. When I became disabled, I was unable to pay my bills in a timely manner due to my reduction in income. After a wait of a few years, I finally received disability benefits from Social Security and my state disability pension. I was able to bring all my debt balances down to $0. However, my credit rating is now poor due to the number of delinquent payments. Since such delinquencies were due to reduced income as a result of my disability, can I be denied credit? I had a good credit history prior to my disability and no current debt, yet according the credit reporting agencies, I have no credit worthiness. Is this discrimination?

Re: Credit Discrimination Against the Disabled?

No. Your credit rating is a function of your bill paying history.
