Legal Question in Administrative Law in Florida
1) I want to drop my last name and just use my first and middle name. If i go thru the courthouse they say it will cost me $401.00 then i go before a judge , if he says no do i get my $401.00 back?
2) What is the difference betwwen doing it myself , or getting an attorney who charges around $1000.00 ?

1. No the court fees are charged by the state and they do not refund the money.
2. In order to change your name you have file a petition and a hearing is required. You could file and attend the hearing on your own. But the proceedings may be more difficult for a unrepresented person.
