If you have a joint checking account with someone, does that make you responsible for any debts they have?

You will be responsible for any debts that may arise from the account, for example overdrawing the account including any associated fees.

No, but it may mean that your money in the account may be taken to satisfy their debts. It may be difficult or impossible for you to get it back.
