Try pulling a full (three-reporting-agency) credit report on yourself. Many bankruptcy lawyers can do this for you, and many online services offer credit reports for a charge. You are entitled to one set of free credit reports per year at annualcreditreport.com. You might alsio want to check the clerk's office to see if you have any judgments or lawsuits pending.

Your credit bureau report is a good place to start. Be sure to pull all three as many creditors will report to one or two but not all three, so you could miss things if you only pull one.

However, this leaves a real gap for those creditors that do not report to the bureaus. Medical bills, especially, will not report until they have been turned over to an outside collection agency or attorney. This can take YEARS for medical bills to show on your bureau. If you have insurance, check your periodic benefits statements to check who all you received services from that the insurance did not pay. (Those letters that come in saying "THIS IS NOT A BILL.")

You may also want to peruse your check register for the past couple years to try and jog your memory of other creditors. You also should check the Public Records for your county to make sure nothing is out there. You can go to the Clerk of Court website for that.
