Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida
bankruptcy filing and divorce
My husband and I are currently separated, and I have a large sum of unsecured debt in my name only. I anticipate that we will be divorcing soon, however; I would like to file bankruptcy now for myself so that I can get back on my feet financially. Can I file bankruptcy without it affecting my husband in any way? I have virtually no assets, my husband is a few years older than I and since we married at a older age, the assets are his that he brought into the marriage. I don't want to do anything that could damage him, since the debt that I have is strictly in my name and unsecured. I don't know where to start, obviously, it--name removed--a tough situation to be in and I don't know how to start. If you could give me some general information, I would appreciate it.
