Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida
Bankruptcy- Joint owned vehicle
I bought a volvo about 3 yrs ago. I was then with the father of my kids(we never married) and the car title was issued under both our names. He has now filed bankruptcy chapter 7, we separated I am now married to someone else but his name still shows in my car title and is being told the court will take both his car and mine. Is that possible although my name is in the title and I have not filed bankruptcy, can I lose my car?

Re: Bankruptcy- Joint owned vehicle
Yes, when he filed bankruptcy, he placed all of his assets--including the car you jointly own--under control of the bankruptcy trustee (the trustee is kind of like the bankruptcy court). If the car is worth it, you should speak with a bankruptcy lawyer.
