Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida
Bankruptcy...Married or Unmarried?
I used my credit cards to pay for college as well as other things. My fiance's name is on about half of the cards that I, at one time, had. Due to this, we have acquired a large debt (approximately 30,000) on credit cards and from other creditors (none of which are student loans). The question that I have is if we both were to file for bankruptcy, as we see no forseeable way to pay this debt, should we file separately before we are married or jointly after we are married?
Since my fiance only has his name on a little less than half of the debt, if he decides not to file and I proceed to file would it be better for us in the long run if I filed before or after we were to get married?

I would like more information before I say whether it would be better to file now or wait until you are married. You are entitled to certain exemptions either way but I would need more information to help you. If you are in my area please call. The consultation is no charge.
