Chapter 7 bankruptcy case discharged in Sept. 20
How long will a chapter 7 bankruptcy
case discharged in Sept. 2002 remain
on your credit report?
I believed it was 7 years in 2002. My
credit report lists the bankruptcy
until 2012. Please advise. Thanks

Re: Chapter 7 bankruptcy case discharged in Sept. 20
Bankruptcy cases filed prior to 2006 generally remained on credit bureau files for 7 years. Since 2005 they can remain for 10 years. This time frame is not part of the bankruptcy laws but the Fair Debt Credit Reporting Act. Depending on the Credit Bureau the bankrutpcy can legally be listed 7-10 years.
