Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida

Is my debt dischargeable? can i avoid bankruptcy????

I am 21 yeras old and it looks like bankruptcy is in my near future.I stupidly co-signed on a auto loan for an ex-boyfriend.My ex has stopped paying for the car and for the car insurance. Once the car gets repossed for non-payment he is planning to file bankruptcy. His goal is to make me souly responsible for the car. He has openly stated that his intent is to screw up my credit and make me pay for the car. At the moment I am unemployed and can not afford the car. My only income is a disability check. (i am legally blind)I contacted a lawyer in my area about this matter he suggested bankruptcy as a way out.My question is this how do i know if the debt (the car) is dischargeable. I do not want to end up with a bankruptcy on my credit report for 10 years and still have to pay for the car because it is not a dischargeable debt. I hope you are able to understand my ramblings... Any advice you can offer concerning this matter would be great. Perhaps there is another way out of this mess besides bankruptcy. I REALLY do not want to have to file bankruptcy at 21. Thank you for your time.
