Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida
Filing personal bankrupcy
I am a 58 (59 on 6/1) year old woman that had a well paid career for 26 years as a Sales and marketing executive in the hotel industry. Last position was at Fontainebleu on their transition team when they began billion $ renovation. Laid off with almost all Sales team when new management came in bringing own people. Spent year and half on Workman's comp for knee injury and then elderly mother needed me to move in to care for her. Have been trying to find work for last 6 months to no avail. Extremely BAD credit as supported both parents and then mom's cancer and various illness's. Cannot live on unemployment (Mom gets small social security of about $1,100. I owe at least $30,000 ($10,000 is on my credit report from when I had to give up my apartment to move in with Mom ). Since my credit is SO bad I see no alternative then bankrupcy as I have nothing to lose and can't possibly pay back all creditors (most from when I was employed and could pay bills). Can't afford large attorney fees. Is there any way I can acheive this without spending thousands? and do you agree that this is best way to go?

Based upon what you've described so far, you should be eligible for Chapter 7. Needless to say, that is mostly a guess since I don't have near enough information to actually determine if you qualify, but it sounds like you might.
If you do, then a bankruptcy attorney would cost about $800 to $1500 depending upon your area. You can anticipate about $300 to $500 in costs. As for cheaper alternatives, I will reiterate what I have said many times before on this forum. Bankruptcy Petition Preparers are disasters waiting to happen. They are cheaper, but the risk you run with your assets if they mess it up is amazing, and there is little to no recovery from them. At least the lawyer has a license and malpractice insurance.

YOu should speak with a bankruptcy attorney. Many offer free consultations. I think you'll find that bankruptcy attorneys don't charge outrageous fees, and there's no way an attorney can learn all the information required to advise you whether to file bankruptcy in a short forum like this.
