A debtor in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy will typically receives a discharge whereby the court discharges debts included in the petition, including credit card debts. Such debts, even if a judgment or lien exists at the time of filing, are discharged, and the creditor cannot collect them. Judgments, liens, garnishments, or any collection method cannot be used because the debts have been discharged in bankruptcy.
