Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida
Low Cost Chapter 7
Good Afternoon
I spoke with an attorney yesterday and have qualified for Chapter 7, due to loss of income. Very nice and informative, I was taken aback as the cost will be $1799.00. Retention fee (what ever I can afford) plus they will work out payment plan.
What concerns me is that presently my monthly bare expense exceed my by about 700 dollars. I have actively been looking for P/T employment to pick up slack. I can not afford retention or a monthly payment that is why I am filing bankruptcy.
Is there program available to assist me?

No, the government is not giving financial assistance to help people to file for bankruptcy. $1799 is basically "the going rate". If this law firm is also offering a payment plan, then they are being very competitive. You can always try to file it yourself. However, you know what they say about a person who represents themselves-- "they have a fool for a lawyer!". I recommend trying to borrow some money from relatives or sell some items to come up with the money you need to retain this firm. Good luck!
