Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida
Receiving money after filing bankruptcy but before the discharge
I am about to file chapter 7 bankruptcy, due to a large loss of income. My father passed away and my sister and I inherited his house, which has no mortgage on it. My step mother, because of Florida Law has a life estate, which I understand to mean she can live in the house or have control of the house until she signs it over to my sister and I. As of yet, she has not agreed to sign the house over and is still living in the house. My question is this: If we go to probate and my step-mother signs the house over to us, how does this affect my bankruptcy? Is there a time period in which I have to wait after my bankruptcy to receive a large amount of money, or do I just have to wait until the bankruptcy is discharged?

Re: Receiving money after filing bankruptcy but before the discharge
I would not file until you have consulted face to face with a bankruptcy lawyer. You have an asset that the bankruptcy trustee may try to take (the house) so you need bankruptcy planning.
