Legal Question in Business Law in Florida
I have been looking for an attorney for my grievance against MetLife regarding a VIOLATION OF PRIVACY with my life insurance policy, but no one seems remotely interested. I simply want to know why.
No precedent?
Low monetary awards versus amount of legal work needed?
MetLife is too formidable a foe?
Privacy laws are just an illusion to customers?
I had recently updated my mailing address and then made a change in beneficiary. Unfortunately, through a "SYSTEM ERROR" the change of beneficiary was mailed to the address of my previous beneficiaries, an address I have never lived at. This has caused me grief. Although, I received a verbal and written apology, MetLife has refused to respond to further inquiry of their failure.
Full case details:
2008 - Obtained life insurance policy from former employer for coverage amount of $244,000 while living in New York. Moved to Florida in 2008 and have had four address changes in Florida (Fort Myers, Tampa, Sarasota, Orlando).
01/2016 - Unbeknownst to me at the time, MetLife through an "electronic address change file from the US Postal Office" changed my mailing address to the New York address of beneficiaries.
02/2016 - Got married
03/01/2016 - Called MetLife to update beneficiary to spouse for 100%. Current address apparently was not on file, so agent changed. Logged into MetLife's online customer portal and noticed address was not updated, so updated it again. Waited a few days for the address to be accepted and then changed beneficiary.
04/20/2016 - Received email from previous beneficiary informing me they received MetLife letter regarding change of beneficiary, which I did not want them to know (violation of privacy). Letter was dated March 8, 2016
04/22/2016 - Called MetLife customer service to see why this error occurred. Agent said it was a "system error", but did not elaborate. Called MetLife's complaint department and left inquiry request.
04/25/2016 - Received message from MetLife apologizing for changing address in January 2016 without my express consent, but did not address "system error" in March 2016.
05/04/2016 - MetLife drafted apology letter and states they tried to reach me on two dates, which is false (screenshot of phone log).
04-05/2016 - Emailed MetLife over a dozen times to get copy of USPS "electronic address change file", proof MetLife had my current address of file before change, confirmation of dates when I corrected my mailing address and changed beneficiary. No reply to any emails.

Hello,
You keep posting the same question. You have no measurable damages, meaning that your claim is not worth much in dollar terms. That is the reason no lawyer wants to pursue a case on your behalf.
