Business Contract issue

in 1999, a friend and I worked for a chiro clinic. At the time the owners asked if we would wish to be part owners, they gave us the opportunity to invest each 10K. Since the owners owed me 1500, I only gave 8500 at the time where my friend invested 10K. To date, we have been paid little then 4K back in returns, and constantly have to call only to be blown off my this clinic. The contract we signed was vague yet stated we purchased interest in the company and was on the board of directors though we have never been involved in any decisions for the clinic. They have since expanded, hired/fired physicians, built a large practice yet continue to not pay my friend and I. I know for a fact they have done illegal practices with patients, have worked w/ patients in order to help them through their care to help the lawyer among other illegal issues. I believe they commingled our money with their own personal debts initially. I've asked for accountant records and have been refused to look over the track of how the money was used. I know they see more then 50 patients to date and still will not pay us back for both interest and initial investment.
