Re: Displaying business name for a limited liability company
If you don't display the letters LLC, you risk being personally liable. That's because, if you don't alert people you are an LLC by displaying it in your business name, it's assumed you are a sole proprietorship. Sole proprietors are personally liable for all company debt.
There is a fix, though. You can register the LLC name with a dba name that doesn't include the letters "LLC." Sounds stupid, but it works. So, here's what you do:
Go to sunbiz.org and, let's say your business name is "Joe the Plumber, LLC." Register the dba of "Joe the Plumber." Now you can drop the "LLC" part on your logo, etc., and not worry about personal liablilty for business debt.
