establishment of an association that is capable of receiving contributions that
the alumni of the post-graduate department wish to establish an association to which they can make tax deductible contributions to financially aid the present post-doctoral students. How do we set up the proper entity and apply for a tax identification.

It's baiscally a two step process. The first is to
establish a non-profit corporation throught the
Florida Secretary of State. Once you have done that
you apply to IRS for a tax exempt status. Probably
under Rule 501C3.
