Legal Question in Business Law in Florida
a healthclub that just opened is paying me to teach a fitness class. i get a paycheck form the company but they do not deduct any taxes. i was told taxes were not withheld because all the fitness instructors are "subcontractors". there are probably 15 different individuals teaching classes and none of us has a business or made any agreement to be a subcontractor. is this legal?

There's nothing wrong with that arrangement so long as the health club provides you with a 1099 form for income reporting. You should consider establishing a corporation or other type of business entity to potentially offset some of your expenses and reduce your tax liability. I suggest speaking with an accountant asap.
I agree; also, the health club should have a signed W-9 from you with
your taxpayer information, required for contractors who will later, in January 2012,
send you a Form 1099 with earnings and withholding information.
