Legal Question in Business Law in Florida
insufficient checks
I have a customer who hired me personally as a virtual assistant. After my third bill she decided she couldnt afford me, gave me my a check for my last invoice and told me to return her files that I had at home. Before returning the files it had come to my attention that her last 2 checks with us bounced, not stopped check, but insufficent funds. Legally what should I do about her files. Do I have the right to hold them till payment in full or should I not give her any reason to hold payments.

Re: insufficient checks
You certainly do have an equitable lien on the files for the work you did. I would not return them until paid. Good luck.
