Legal Question in Business Law in Florida
Let go from job
I teach dance for a living. Last Friday I was notified by
e-mail that I was not going to have a job anymore at the
school where I teach and have taught for the past eighteen
months. I have my B.S. and M.A. in dance and I have years
of experience teaching. I feel that the administrative
director of the school just doesn't like me so she let me
go. I think that she is envious of my knowledge and skills.
I think it is clear she found me a threat so she dicided to
let me go for those reasons. Not because I'm not a great
worker, never abset, dedicated, always on time, and I build
great relationships with the parents and students. How is
this right? How can she just let me go without any really
good reason? Also, they still owe me money. They say they
don't owe the money and also that they don't have

Re: Let go from job
If you are owed money, it must be paid or you can contact the Department of Labor, Wages Division, and file a complaint. If you are an at will employee with no employment contract that guarantees a definite term, then you may be terminated at will so long as the termination is not due to illegal discrimination. It appears that you may have to seek new employment. If you believe you may have a case worth pursuing, seek counsel from an employment/labor lawyer skilled at representing employees/claimants. I can refer you to one if you call my office. Good luck.
