It depends on how the joint venture is set up. If incorporated, you can sell stock subject to any limitations agreed at the inception; if it is a llc, partnership, you can sell your interest - BUT these types of transfers are often restricted by the Buy/Sell Agreement, or Founders Agreement or some such document. It is IMPERATIVE that all written and signed documents be reviewed.
