Can a company work a salary person as many hours as they want with out compansation to that person?

No. Just because you were salaried, that does not mean you are not subject to the Fair Labor Standards act.
However, you may nonetheless be exempt, or come under some exception to the overtime requirements. It depends on your position, how big you employer is, and some other factors.
