Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Is this legal

I was hired as a cash manager with a National grocery chain.Last year they did away with my position. I continued on working with the same pay in courtesy booth. I moved and transferred to another store doing the same job. I just noticed after 5 months they reduced my hourly pay by 1.35 also I feel we are working in a sweatshop. They do not give you a break for 6 hours of work and then write you up for not taking one. Knowingly selling outdated food. Employees working off the clock I could go on and on. Help!!! Can I do anything about this?

Re: Is this legal

I would report it to the appropriate labor department depending where this is occurring.

Re: Is this legal

Mr. Slater's recommendation is appropriate. It appears you have viable claims against your employer. If there are other like you, and there probably are, you might want to find out whether others are interested in bringing a collective claim against the employer (i.e., class action). However, you should not go running to your co-workers to preach the wisdom of filing suit against you employer. First, you need to consult with an attorney to determine your legal options and the pros and cons of each, so that you may make an informed decision. Your lawyer would be better suited to handle approaching potential claimants that have the same or similar claims as you, assuming that's even a real option in your particular case. If you wish to discuss this matter in more detail, please call or write my office.
