is there any legal registration required to start a sole proprietorship other than a dba if needed? also can a sole proprietors dba be transfered to an established corp or llc rather than incorporating itself?

You will usually need an occupational license and apply for a fictitious name if you are a sole proprietor. A corporation has advantages including limiting exposure of personal liability to corporate liabilities.
