LLC- managing partner in background

Hello, I dont know an easy way to explain this so here it is. I'm the currently the primary and only managing partner of an LLC in florida. When we initially opened the LLC i had 1 partner. 3 months after registering we removed him through the state as a partner due to certain background checks from our vendors. He is still currently acting as a managing partner/investor. What is the best way to ensure him of his equity in our company while also protecting me against any negligence on his part, without adding him in our operating agreement owith the sate?
