Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

I was managing a restaurant for almost a year now. A signed a year contract where I was responsible for the day to day operations, buying supplies, hiring marketing etc. All profits to me (no profit sharing). Basically, I took over a restaurant that was going under and it was still owned by someone else. For the past month I have been negotiating buying the restaurant with the owner. A few days ago I came in and the locks were changed a new staff hired and the owner was there called the police and told them I was trespassing and she wasn't allowing me to obtain any of my belongings. Is this legal?

Probably. You managed the restaurant, not owned it. But you need to review the contract, that expired to see what rights you have, if any.

The good news is maybe you may be entitled to unemployment compensation. Your status may have been as an employee only, and Florida it is At Will.

Maybe you can open another restaurant near by and rebuild your own restaurant.

I guess that depends on what your contract says. You should consult with an attorney and bring the contract for his/her review. You may be able to sue them for damages for breach of contract, among other things, or worse case scenario you could just file an unemployment claim. Good luck.
