Mandatory meetings

In Florida, does an employer have the legal right to demand an employee's attendance to a ''mandatory meeting'' that is off campus and after normal working hours?

Re: Mandatory meetings

An employer may be able to make such a demand. However, if the employer does so, (s)he may be required to pay you overtime for those meetings. If (s)he requires you to attend such meetings, and you are entitled to be paid overtime, but are not, the employer may be running afoul of one or more state or federal wage and hour statutes, which would entitle you to damages.

If it is a common practice to make you and your employees work "off the clock" by attending such meetings, I would be very interested in talking with you further. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
