Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Medial Leave

One of my co-workers got diagnosed with cancer last year and has since been undergoing chemo-therapy. He has been working on average 5 hours, our usual requirement for managers is 9 hours a day. I believe he is still getting the same pay as if he was working the full amount of hours. I am very sympathetic to his plight, but is this legal for his pay to not be adjusted, or is this normal for people in his situation?

Re: Medial Leave

Perfectly legal and quite commendable. Would you rather they cut his pay while he undergoes chemo and tries to cope with the extra expenses?

Re: Medial Leave

I am not aware of any laws prohibiting an employer from paying an employee. Is the co-worker a salaried employee? Does the employer have any type of compensation program for this situation?

Best advice, don't worry that your co-worker is getting their full salary while going through an extreme medical condition, so long as you are getting the pay you are supposed to. Also, consider that maybe the employer is offering a benefit which could, God forbid, benefit you at some point in the future.
