Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Previous Employer refuses to pay

I was fired from a resturant job about two weeks ago, were I had worked for almost 6 years. The business had been sold a little over 2 months ago. The new owner did not give us paychecks since he took over. Aside from the fact that he fired 3 of us for no reason, he still refuses to pay us. We had asked him while employed under him when we would be receiving them, and he kept saying soon. Well now that he's fired us, he's telling people that he thought we were stealing from him.

I went in to talk to him about our paychecks, and he went to the back to 'hide'. HOW CAN WE FORCE HIM TO PAY US? WHO DO WE CONTACT? I was thinking the Better Business Bureau, but they don't handle employer/employee disputes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Previous Employer refuses to pay

You can sue for back wages owed. If you prevail you may also get your attorney fees paid under section 448.08.
