Legal Question in Business Law in Florida
I would like to register my local business as "XYZ Coffee Company". Another company in Portland has a national trademark on "XYZ Coffee Portland, Oregon". Can I still register my business name in Florida, or is it too similar?

Too similar.
The answer to your question cannot be given in the abstract, without research and investigation. The issue is not about registering a similar business name but about conducting business (selling goods/services) using a similar trademark.
You need to hire an attorney -- give an attorney 2 hours or so to get a grip on the issue and render a preliminary opinion. I suggest spending no more than $1000 to get the answer you need and a recommendation on how to proceed. Spend the money on the front end, please, so you are not royally sorry on the back end.
